Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada
About Nanaimo
All roads to multi-day Vancouver Island kayak adventures pass through this waterfront city on the eastern coast of the island. Originally, Nanaimo was the site of five separate native villages. Its name is derived from the native Salish word Sney-ny-mo meaning "meeting place" and that it is. Each day, thousands of people traveling to Vancouver Island on B.C. Ferries for either commercial or recreational purposes pass through Nanaimo on their way to and from the Vancouver mainland. Nanaimo is the 3rd oldest city in British Columbia and is one of the largest cities on Vancouver Island, second in size to Victoria with a population that is nearing 100,000 residents. Multi-Day Kayak Trips on Vancouver IslandNanaimo is always a pit stop on our way to and from multi-day Vancouver Island kayaking destinations. Whether traveling from Victoria or Vancouver, it is inevitable that you will pass through Nanaimo on your way to and from your launch site. Nanaimo has plenty of stores where you can stock up on food and gear for your kayak adventure. Most of our multi-day kayak trips depart from extremely small Vancouver Island towns that are a few hours outside Nanaimo. Our Vancouver Island kayak trips include a whale-watching experience on the northern island's Johnstone Strait as well as multi-day excursions into the famously beautiful Clayoquot, Nootka, Barkley and Kyuquot Sounds.
