To get to Port Alberni from Vancouver, take the Nanaimo ferry out of Horseshoe Bay. Once in Nanaimo, you will take the Island Highway, also known as the TransCanada or Hwy 1 north until you reach HIghway #4. The road will be well marked and you won't miss Port Alberni with its large "Salmon Capital of the World" sign.
