PACKING FOR A DAY TRIP.... a few suggestions
Foot & Hand Wear
- 1 pair of trail shoes for onshore wear (NOT heavy duty or overly bulky
hiking boots)
- 1 pair of nylon running shoes or well strapped sandles - do not bring
rubber boots
- 2 or more pairs of warm socks, wool or synthetic
- 1 or more pairs of light socks
Lower Body
- 2 pair of shorts
- 2 pair of warm pants
- 1 pair of long johns - optional
Upper Body
- 2 t-shirt
- 2 long-sleeved light shirt
- 1 medium weight warm long sleeved shirt (wool sweater and / or fleece)
- 1 rain jacket and / or wind breaker
Head Gear
- 1 sun hat or baseball cap
- 1 warm hat or toque
- 1 sou-wester rain hat or waterproof hood
- 1 head lamp - optional but highly recommended for night tours
Additional Gear
- Water
- Sunglasses (with retainer straps)
- Any other beverages such as juice or even an adult beverage
- 1 flashlight or head lamp & matches
- Garbage bag
- SPF 30 or more!
- Mosquito repellent - optional
- Personal medication - if necessary
- Camera and / or binoculars - recommended
- Extra snacks
- contact lens wearers - do not forget solutions!
- Dishes and utensils (if planning to picnic)

hand or bath towel and environmentally friendly soap (e.g. Camp Suds are great!)
PLEASE NOTE:
- cotton insulates very poorly when wet and dries very slowly
- wool insulates well when wet and dries slowly
- synthetics insulate very well when wet AND dry quickly
