Sooke, British Columbia, Canada
About Sooke
A harbourside town on the southern tip of Vancouver Island Sooke is about 30 km east of Victoria and can be described as a dreamy spot where the ocean meets the temperate rainforest. The East Sooke Regional Park is an outstanding and essential stop to those traveling here. Within the park you can take meandering hiking trails that treat you to spectacular views of both the ocean and rainforest. For many millenia, Sooke and its surrounding areas were a thriving Salish settlement where the T-Sou-ke native people sustained themselves with the area's abundant resources such as salmon, seafood, game and forests. Unlike much of Vancouver Island, Sooke enjoys a warm and dry climate throughout its summers making a popular swim spot among Vancouver Island's who travel the scenic roads to cool off in the Sooke Swimming Potholes. Kayaking from SookeThe best way to explore Vancouver Island's unique surrounding waterways is by kayak and kayaking from Sooke can be a rewarding experience.
